Our Vision & Goals

Through trusted relationships, we’re building on our success to invest in communities, with sport & supplementary education tools for positive change

Vision & purpose

By harnessing the power of sport (rugby & netball) and supplementary education, we support African partner organisations and enable communities to drive sustainable and positive change through the local delivery of effective, measurable programs, primarily in Malawi.

BPF’s founding objectives – to unite, empower and inspire – underpin the charity’s operational and strategic intent and, alongside our activities to-date, these principles have helped define our Theory of Change (infographic below) and our impact goal

Impact Goal

We equip young people with skills, knowledge and experience to rise above social, economic and health challenges, to fulfil their life potential and uplift themselves and their communities.

Unite communities through sport & supplementary education

Working with program administrators, participating children and the wider community, we aim to:

  • Provide a safe and accessible platform for all to enjoy playing sports
  • Incorporate supplementary education activities and life skills, and promote BPF’s PRIDE values
  • Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages

Empower local stakeholders

We’re passionate about empowerment. By encouraging local participation, we aim to:

  • Develop transferrable teaching skills for use on and off the sports field
  • Achieve gender equality and empower women and girls
  • Provide accessible and suitable resources – equipment, coaching guides, expertise and funding – to contribute to operational and organisational development
  • Coordinate input from international educators to train local players, teachers, coaches and referees (male and female)
  • Enable opportunities for local BPF stakeholders to develop personally and professionally, through the provision of inclusive and equitable supplementary education and training

Inspire change

Sport and supplementary education serve as powerful tools for positive long-term change. Through a growing support network, we aim to:

  • Create systems and pathways for young people to remain in sporting activities, developing life skills through effective participation
  • Uplift local communities by identifying and employing responsible individuals capable of managing and furthering BPF operations (and the wider ‘ecosystem’), through youth sports, education and vocational training programs
  • Ensure the success of BPF Malawi’s Mtema community centre (in rural Lilongwe) and its associated programming
