BPF Malawi implements game-changing solar & irrigation projects

The community centre goes off-grid and site irrigation systems are installed

In recent weeks, BPF Malawi has gone through the process of implementing transformational projects at its Mtema sports & education community centre, welcoming hands-on support from a team of visiting volunteers with specialist skills – representing one of BPF’s partners – and collaborating with local contractors in Lilongwe. The projects include:

  • Installing an off-grid solar system on-site, providing electricity to all buildings at the centre (now including the clubhouse and accommodation block)
  • Implementing a site-wide irrigation (and sprinkler) system, enabling BPF Malawi’s maintenance team to keep the pitch watered – and green and playable – throughout the year
  • Planning and initiating a sustainable vegetable garden with regular access to a purpose-built drip irrigation system
  • Installing three solar geysers at the accommodation block, heating water for guests staying on-site

The project teams, including Gracious (one of BPF Malawi’s sports coaches), captured the events on camera… Scroll down to watch the inspiring project video and scroll down further to see a selection of photographs of the work carried out, bringing it all to life…
