The community centre goes off-grid and site irrigation systems are installed
In recent weeks, BPF Malawi has gone through the process of implementing transformational projects at its Mtema sports & education community centre, welcoming hands-on support from a team of visiting volunteers with specialist skills – representing one of BPF’s partners – and collaborating with local contractors in Lilongwe. The projects include:
The project teams, including Gracious (one of BPF Malawi’s sports coaches), captured the events on camera… Scroll down to watch the inspiring project video and scroll down further to see a selection of photographs of the work carried out, bringing it all to life…
During the solar and irrigation installations, the team takes a series of drone photographs of the site
The project team works with local contractor, Solarise, to install the main solar power system, enabling off-grid electricity for the clubhouse and accommodation block
Three solar geysers are installed on one side of the accommodation block, providing hot water for guests staying in the twin rooms
A 10,000 litre tank is positioned atop a second tank stand, providing regular and accessible water to irrigate the adjacent sports pitch and for watering the 7-acre site
A third water storage tank stand is constructed and installed, while the existing fruit & veg garden is completely restructured, plants are planted in rows and given regular access to drip-supplied irrigation from the water tower - a huge team effort brings this wonderful project to life!
Electrifying the site and initiating a sustainable system for keeping the site and pitch watered - especially through the dry season - gives BPF Malawi a wonderful opportunity to increasingly optimise the centre for its youth and community based activities, contributing to our impact goal
