Bringing BPF Malawi’s centre and local programming to life

BPF Malawi's centre continues to take shape as the team deliver ChildFund's youth sports & life-skills curriculum

Over the course of 2022, our team in Lilongwe have been working hard to bring BPF Malawi’s sports & education centre to life, and our dedicated operations staff are delivering meaningful rugby, netball and life-skills sessions with 726 children every afternoon.

12 months ago, BPF Malawi’s Wordsworth Rashid was striving to support communities through the pandemic. During these uncertain times, we’ve been making great progress… Last June Wordsworth moved into the community centre manager’s house with his family, in December BPF Malawi agreed a transformational strategic partnership with ChildFund Sport for Development with coach training and the pilot program beginning in February and, by April 2022, BPF Malawi’s team had grown to include:

  • 28 male & female rugby, netball & life-skills coaches
  • 2 coach managers
  • 2 administrators
  • 6 community centre maintenance staff
  • 1 program operations manager
  • 1 country manager
  • an increasingly active board of trustees

We’ll publish features on our staff in the coming weeks. For now, we share with you photos of the team’s work in action with the participating children…
