Osman Saidi

Osman Saidi’s journey highlights the transformative power of BPF’s work in Malawi. Since becoming a coach in 2022, Osman has not only developed his coaching skills, he’s emerged as a leader in his community.

Like many young Malawians, Osman has faced significant financial difficulties, preventing him from furthering his education – despite having a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and a certificate in Information and Communication Technology. In 2022 Osman applied to become a coach for BPF’s Reconnect program, alongside ChildFund. With limited coaching experience, he wasn’t sure if he had the ability… but he was selected. The role opened a door to unexpected opportunities.

More recently, and with mentorship from visiting volunteers like Scott Wilson, Osman has received vital training in coaching, leadership and life skills. The support from BPF is helping Osman overcome his fears and insecurities about working with others. He is also learning essential skills such as first aid, permaculture and about sexual & reproductive health (through BPF Malawi’s Youth Discuss program). These supporting initiatives are not only advancing Osman’s coaching abilities but equipping him to better manage real-life situations, from developing interpersonal and relationship skills to managing tournaments with the Malawi Rugby Union and administering first aid.

The training that Osman receives through BPF Malawi’s Clubs for Development (C4D) program is further shifting his life perspectives. Instead of solely relying on traditional education, he’s discovered his potential in business. With his BPF coach stipends, Osman has been able to start his own stationery business, enabling him to support his family financially.

Osman’s achievements extend beyond personal success. His training in permaculture has led him to establish a garden at home, where he grows vegetables, reducing his family’s grocery costs. This also contributes to his community by promoting sustainable practices.

Osman Saidi’s story exemplifies how the continued and sustained investment in Bhubesi Pride Foundation’s work in Malawi is empowering individuals, like Osman, to break through social barriers and shape a better future. Through training, mentorship and financial support, Osman has transformed from a hesitant player into a confident coach and entrepreneur, positively impacting his family and community.
